Sept. 17th, 2018, the next day after Typhoon Mangkhut hit Macau, CKLC volunteer team (22 students and staff) worked with Cheng Choang Elderly Center and “Peng On Tung” Service Center to pack and deliver meals to the elderly living alone in Fai Chi Kei and Cheng Chong area.
The next day after Typhoon Mangkhut, some old buildings in Macau Fai Chi Kei and Cheng Chong area hadn’t resumed the lift service. Many residents in those old buildings are the elderly and even some of the elderly live alone. It is really difficult for the elderly climbing up and down the staircases for food. Once CKLC volunteer team got this message, they mobilized 22 CKLC members on the same day to work with Cheng Chong Elderly Center and “Peng On Tung” Service Center to pack and deliver meals to the elderly living alone in Fai Chi Kei and Cheng Chong area.
Student Ng Cheok Him, who participated in this activity, reflected: “we first helped pack around 300 meals, and then delivered them to the elderly’s home. We asked for their needs as we met the elderly. We found that some elderly’s home were short of water, some got injured. We kept a record and reported back the Service Center. ” Another student, Huang Zijian, said: “This activity is meaningful. I am proud that I can contribute a bit to serve the society! We should organize more community service activities to serve Macao local community in the future.”
